HIV test rule for Filipinos to Oman under review

MUSCAT: A negative HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) test certificate is required for Filipino nationals travelling to Oman under visa-free entry, according to airline sources.

Oman Air said the measure is linked to entry screening procedures and rising HIV cases in the Philippines, and is being applied for tourist arrivals regardless of point of departure.

The Philippine Embassy in Oman said the matter is under review, noting that the requirement does not apply to work visa holders. The Embassy has made representations to Omani authorities seeking its removal.

Travel agents have advised passengers to verify requirements with airlines before travel, as rules may change during the review process.

Airlines clarified that the rule applies only to adults and not to children.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs expressed confidence that the issue will be resolved, citing strong bilateral ties between the two countries.
